Still living

My absence from these pages for yet another unforgivable length of time. Good news though- I'm back. Living again for what seems like the first time in quite a while. My lack of Catholic fiends have pushed me to new avenues of networking, and must say, i am finding it rather interesting.

Work- update. Still working at the FCC, but have backed down a notch to an avg. of 3 days a week. My other job at the Beer and Wine making store is in rocky times. Just coming out of what is the most difficult time of the year (summer) for a home brew store, and such things are a bit nervous at the moment. It's all good i suppose, but I have rethought the likellyhood of this working out long term.

Such i am also working toward saving money to finish up my BA at the local University. Right now looking at microbiology, but who knows. Won't have the money to take classes till spring, and even then it'll be tight. I also need to replace my car.... Good times.

Oh, right, and on recent news i have found out that my enlarger is enroute from washington!! I was so excited I loaded film in my camera for the first time in months. Thats as far as i got... But i have big plans for fall this year. From what i remember of last year it gets down right pretty around here come the first cold snap. Also, the FCC has proven to be a place of amazing beauty that has beckoned a lens since I started working up there.

Well. Fancy that, i'm off Still have yet to pray morning prayer. ERGH. Which brings me to my disapointment in the lack of a morning wednesday mass in the area. 6pm is the only mass available. Grr. EXCITING week though.... Assumption & St. Max AWESOME....

The Idea of 'Her'

Last night I spent, alone for the most part, watching a truly wonderful sky show combination of a bright red glowing cloud, a premature neighbor, and the cloud-to-cloud lightning that issued quickly after nightfall. I again occurred to me that I am more in ‘Love’ with the idea of Her that her.
I breathed deeply; desperate attempt to control something that I have come to understand is far beyond me. I am a pawn. Compelling. The night was perfect and me despite was made lonely by it’s greatness. Maybe to spite it. To defile the perfection with ‘if only I could share this’.
It got me thinking- what I’m I driven by more, the idea of her or her. It frightens me to think that that was an honest thought process in my head. Even more so, that I could not give myself an honest answer.
Whatever the case, the sky last night brought a comforting consistency. The entire sky glowed a bright and intoxicating orangish red. The glow emanating from it lit the scene, though it was pouring down. And almost as soon as the fire went out, the sky came alive with lightning. The neighbor almost in competition with the sky launched string after string of aerial shells (post date: July 4). The futility of the battle was familiar. Each string was answered with more and more intense cloud-to-cloud bursts with more and more colors each time.

Tonight I continue in my efforts to save the world. Good news: Kegerator parts come in on Monday! The new freezer will soon be adorned with 6 beautiful stainless taps. 2 Nitrogenated.

What’s on tap:

Irish Red, Nitro
Oatmeal Stout, Nitro
Saison (no-boil)
Jens' Spécial Dubbel Cuvee' (a Belgian Dubbel brewed for my brother)
Dunkelweizen
Tonic Water (from scratch IE cinchona bark, water, herbs, and sugar)

Homeless for Mary

Hello all and greetings from a long absence. I’ve missed you all- So much has happened since we last spoke. I hope all is well in all your lives.

If you heard rumors, all the good ones are true. The rest are lies.

(Entirely kidding)

I am preparing to serve Our Lady for the next year with my new family, the Militia of the Immaculate (MI), as I hopefully join them for MAX 2008. I will be coveting your prayers as I discern our Lady’s wishes for me over the next year. Specifically, the bulk of my concerns are that of finances. I will be leaving in less than three weeks to start my service with the MI in Arkansas.

Between now and then I need to raise enough money to pay my bills for the next year. I will be giving up my apartment and getting rid of a bulk of my possessions, such my monthly expenses will be minimal. I will be selling prints from Italy and also from the local area here in Steubenville along with other images I have taken over the pass few years. All profits from the sale of these images will go directly to funding my adventures in service of our Lady in the upcoming months. Any monies that go beyond my needs will be donated to the MI. Please consider buying prints to make this call a reality. For more information please contact me, david@david-mathews.net

Mondays..

Well, I know, it has been a while. Today is my day off, and again, not a whole lot of anything I have to do, but at the same time, there is a ton of stuff that has to get done. Stopped by the bank, it’s official: I am poor.

Hope to spend some of the day in the darkroom. This evening promises to be wonderful.

For those of you interested in prints, I am very soon going to have my first prints that will be available for purchase posted. Prices on them are going to be somewhere between $35 and $100, depending on a number of things such as size & presentation, as well as my personal attachment to them. Also, there is a series of a local church that consists of 4 images, each 7" x 7" matted on a 24" x 24" board. I will only be making 5, 3 of which are spoken for already. I have not set a price for the remaining two. I am also expecting at least a dozen images from Italy to be up soon.

All of the Italy images will be limited to 15 prints per edition. These I will be selling for $45.

Also, I plan on seeking gallery representation by the end of the summer. I have a few that I am very casually looking at, but no inquires have yet been made.

The Peace of Christ be with you all.

David

Photos to check out...

Hello all, (yes, all 2 1/2 of you)

Be sure to keep an eye on the recent projects pages. Take a second to look at 'Mom's Flowers' . There's alot more to the flowers than it appears, and rather a long and deep look into me. But, i suppose you'd have to know me to understand that. Those who take the time, thank you.

Peace be with you always (and Mom's love.)

David.

Random thoughts on nothing

Today. June the 12th, the year of our Lord (because it is good to say, and for no other reason) 2006. Today was an interesting day. With my schedule the way it is right now at work, I have Sundays and Mondays off. It makes for an interesting weekend.

Sundays feel unmistakably like a Saturday, and Mondays fell like nothing, a wasted day. It’s that I didn’t accomplish anything, it’s that nothing had to happen. Errands, some random wanderings with a preoccupied friend, a bit of Golf, and the highlight of my day, a stolen smile, and Mass. Oh, and finished a book.

I don’t know if it is even fair to say, but if today were to be Monday a week ago, I 'd likely be asleep, or at least heading there quickly over a good bit of reading or composing an email. The cap to a very pleasant day. But here I am, blogging of all things, a bit preoccupied mentally. It amazes me that knowing one person can change the entire internal workings of the day. I suppose things are always strange in my world. I only hope things nerver submit themselves to being normal.

Remember always, Mom loves you.

Work as a 'News' photographer

Hey, well, been a while. To be honest, the likelyhood of me keeping up with this is slim to none. But, anywho, here is a photo of my office. and yes, there is some "retouching".
